This is really helpful, thank you so much for writing this piece. The way it is structured and explained with real life examples and with adding the Greek terms really makes this stick. Thx again!

Thanks Jur! The Greek is helpful to show that these are specific technical concepts they were referring to, not just something we've made up in modern English.

Michael, thx for responding to my message. Really appreciate what you and Caleb are doing, I am a subscriber to your app and loving the conversations that you put out there. Learning a lot from you and Caleb. I did a ton of meditation since 2020 and I am interested in Buddhism & Stoicism, the approach you guys take and the wealth of knowledge you clearly have is really helping me in practicing Stoicism, and just my general interest in philosophy. I guess this is a very long winded way of saying: keep up the good work!

Thank you Michael.

This was a great piece that pulled it all together for me. I still have a lot to learn and out into practice, but this was a great way for me to see the big picture or framework of Stoic Philosophy.

Thanks Bill, so glad it was helpful for you. Yes, the Stoics were famous for having a 'comprehensive system' which sometimes gets lost today. Glad this provided a bit of that framework.

“Humans are uniquely among all animals in our capacity for reflection and self-awareness. We are the only creatures that can make self-aware choices. And so what makes us excellent is to perfect that capacity “

This was a key insight for me. Thank you.

Thanks Dartz. Yes this 'teleology' is really popular in Ancient Greek philosophy. Things have certain functions or natural 'ends' that they should aim to achieve.
