Welcome to The Stoa Letter, the newsletter on Stoic theory and practice.
Today, I’m sharing 7 Stoic maxims I find useful – the kind of thing that is invaluable to keep on hand.
🏛️ Theory
Things in themselves cannot harm you, only your judgment of them can.
It is always within your power to see things as they are.
Life does not happen to you. Impressions happen to you. Life happens within.
Find freedom by desiring what is up to you.
Let externals come, let them be, let them go.
Character is fate.
Direct reality when you can; Harmonize with it when you can’t.
🎯 Action
During the day, simply revisit one of the maxims above – or one of your own – and live by it.
